About

David Scott KaneG’day.  For those folks who don’t have a clue who I am (most people by that reckoning) I’m generally known as Scott Kane - the “David” part is not used normally as I use my second given name “Scott” and have done so since birth.  I’m the moderator of comp.software.shareware.* Usenet newsgroups, an ex ASP (Assoc of Shareware Professionals) Vice President and Board Member.  I’m listed as a founding member of the OISV and AISIP.  I’ve been involved in the small software sector (sometimes known as “shareware” a term I’ve come to dislike) often called ”ISV” and “mISV”  for over two decades and I’ve been a computer programmer for just on three (I’m getting old as my kids keep telling me) and I’m in the process of working up a series of software applications for sale into a vertical market. I’ll be talking more about that at a later date on this blog.   I’m also involved in politics running in the 2007 Australian Federal elections as a candidate for the seat of McEwen for the Australian Democrats (who have nothing - not even politics in common with the Democrats of the USA.  Try and picture a moderate USA style GOP with moderate USA style Democrat beliefs and you have an inkling of what we stand for).

I started this blog after researching for several years now in relation to issues that affect small software companies.  A kind of late night hobby.   I thought I’d share some of the things I’ve turned up, throw out the odd controversial idea, upset a few firmly held beliefs, make a few enemies :-)  and generally stir up the pot.

I hate Google Adds in blogs!  I find them annoying and distracting.  I hate them even more on so called download sites (most of which are just Google Add farms anyway) so you’ll find none of those here.  However….   I’m not opposed (and encourage) folks trying to make an honest buck (if you don’t mind Google Adds that’s fine, it’s just my own pet hate).  For the sheer fun of it I’ll be adding a donation link in the future that readers can use to donate if they think any of the information assists them in their business.  But that’s the full extent of it.  I’d rather sell product than clicks anyday!

 Best!

 Scott
