Day Two – mISV Product In 30 Days.

OK.  Today has been pretty full on.  Linking the GUI into the file handling routines, getting shell drag and drop implemented (almost finished that now) and ironing out a few code wrinkles.  Pretty pleased so far.  I’m almost ready to post the first screen shots and will post details on the nature of the application tomorrow.  I’m just to dog tired tonight to do it right now.

I promised a while back on the BOS forums that I’d publish here, what I think to be, some interesting search terms, mostly from Google and the MS search engines, that I get in the logs for this blog.

So below, in percentages only are the May results for what folks were searching for when they came to this blog.  Note a piracy article I wrote here was largely responsible for these results.  But for an mISV it’s certainly of interest and gives, to a limited and albeit to a rather skewed degree, an inkling as to how much people are looking to steal software in 2008.

From a business perspective I suppose one could opine its not great news, but to my mind it’s pretty much what I expected and I’m not discouraged.

Some of the search terms, I find, rather hilarious.  I hope some of you get a kick out of them too.

My suggestion to ISV’s is that if you have a blog consider doing an article along the lines of what I did here.  Seems to me if enough of us do this then it’ll get a lot harder for these morons to find the links they are looking for.

I love the idea, Scott.

I’ve seen a similar idea before whereby people use high-ranking blogs (mine is a PR3, hoping for PR4 at the next update) in order to influence search cracks results; then providing a link(s) to youtube videos of pirates dancing :)

Love it :)

I much prefer pro-active action like this than the whining we usually see in forums and newsgroups. You can’t beat pirates, but you should, in theory, be able to make it bloody hard for them. ;-)

BTW - anybody who does an anti-piaracy article in a blog will get a trackback from me - just let me know when you’ve done it…
